A husband and wife had a place in Bevo area for awhile and moved to this spot a couple years ago. They take your orders at the counter and you pay when you leave. The drinks and salsa (six kinds) are self serve. I've eaten there for lunch about 4 times (including today) and it has always been a pleasure. I think they have alcohol. Decoration includes some nice photographs; I believe the owners are intimate with - today she was explaining something regarding them to another customer.
Connoisseuring Aficionado's might balk a bit - but it's good enough for this gringo - when the owners and cooks are Mexican it's hard for me not to call it genuine. Mostly I just like supporting a local family. Their kids can be seen coming in from school and playing video games behind the counter.
Specifically I've enjoyed the Carne Asada Burrito every time and seek it out because it's one of the few places that put all the ingredients inside so you can pick it up to eat (I believe the way the gods intended burritos to be eaten - plus the opportunity for pouring salsa or picante in the end for every bite). I complimented her on this and she told me that is how she learned to make them.
I understand being picky so I'll leave further evaluation, criticism or praise up to you guys. I will say you can expect a smile and thanks from the very personal owners / hosts; as I have received every time I have been there.
Simply dropping a referral for a decent, fair priced and very local establishment that is close to you guys.
PS I saw three kinds of Flan on the board that I didn't have the time or room to try today - Mocha, Coffee and Coconut - Who wants to go?

I got messed up today and ordered the Carne Asada plate instead of the Carne Asada burrito plate. So I got slabs of meat and sides for make your own soft tacos. It was good but I missed the ready made model and the meat turned a bit dry too. But yes I recall them being reasonably fat - but not so much that you can't hold or put your mouth around - which is another burrito / wrap injustice. Yeah the mustached guy is so friendly - One of those guys that seems to be perpetually smiling.
Quick question --- what are you referring to when you say intimate? A tomato or avocado maybe?
I agree the salsa bar is a plus. Chris and I have been a few times, they don't have much for our friendly neighborhood vegetarian so we aren't regulars.
Here are few places to try:
- La Tropicana
- Taqueria El Bronco
- Neveria la Vallesana
- El Burrito Loco (before the new owners take over)
- Las Palmas (it's okay)
- Go back to Chicago
Tortillaria Mexican Kitchen & Tortilla Co. is gringo-fied and has a salsa bar too. The bonus is they serve elote!
!Provecho!

I should have guessed all you guys have been there. You can understand wanting to share it with such friendly owners. Mostly because I ate there today - it was fresh on my mind. We'll have to try the other establishments you mentioned. I can confidently go anywhere you guys recommend.
