Pizza Night with Will

It was a cool October night. The Cardinals had lost a game to the Padres, and the Yankees superstars were getting knocked out the race. Leslie and I grabbed the salad, wine and dessert and hopped in the car. We were on our way to see what Will Turnbull was up to, and have a little pizza.
As we drove up to the Rosco lot, Indy was running crazy up and down the length of the fence. Will was outside talking on the phone. It was good to see him again.
We said our hellos and went to pick up the special order pizza. We cut through the side streets to get to La Pizza, passing all the people dressed in black, who were walking back from temple that night.
The boxes were huge, and we anticipated a good pizza. We returned and began the meal. Everyone liked Leslie's salad. It is her speciality you know. The pizza, as I said, was a special pizza that caught Patti's eye about a year ago. It's a deep-dish pizza that takes 24 hours to make. She had been anticipating this pizza for a long time, but after a few bites her hopes were dashed. The pizza wasn't bad, but I think we were all expecting more of a Chicago style pizza with a thick crust filled with yummy goodness. This pizza, however, was very bready with about a 3" crust and regular toppings. It wasn't bad (I actually just finished some for breakfast) but a regular La Pizza pie is really a lot better. We finished off the meal with some yummy brownies from Straubs.
After dinner, we decided to play hearts. Leslie and Patti picked it up pretty quickly, and we learned some interesting facts about each other's tv viewing habits (like Will used to tape Cheaters at one time.) The hearts game was pretty close, and Chris tried to shoot the moon. He almost had it, but Will took the last heart on the last card. Undaunted, Chris tried again. He picked up the Q of hearts on the first trick, and everyone laughed. Little did they know that the joke was on them, as he unleashed and avalanche of hearts and "puppy paws" on them to end the game, and secure the victory for himself. The moon had been shot, and the night was now over.
It was good to see ol' Will again, and fun to hang out with good friends.

Indeed. It was a very enjoyable evening. Simple times with good friends. Leslie did show "her specialty" with a lovely salad. Also fine wine selection. The pizza was absoulutely a letdown. Almost like a french bread pizza. The crust was excellent and the toppings were good - though not enough - but the combination definitely left you wanting for something different or more than it was. Hearts is a fine game and Chris certainly clinched it authoritatively taking every last trick out of nowhere. Even if he only topped Will by one point. So the evening ended and I was reminded that we have to find time to get together more often. That's the whole point.
